Nintendo's forthcoming 3DS game machine will not only play games in 3-D, it will also be able to stream movies and TV shows from Netflix.

During a keynote speech(重要讲话) that marked the opening of the Game Developers Conference, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime revealed the new collaboration(合作) with Netflix.

The 3DS — which allows players to see 3-D on its top screen without the use of 3-D glasses — launched in Japan over the weekend and will arrive in the U.S. on March 27. It will cost $250.

"Netflix delivers a huge menu of 2-D programming, but 3-D programming is also on the way," Fils-Aime said from the GDC stage in San Francisco Wednesday.

He said that in addition to the Netflix service, Nintendo also will be offering a short-form video service that allows movie companies to share 3-D trailers(预告片) of their 3-D movies with Nintendo 3DS owners. That means device owners will be able to watch, for example, a 3-D version(版本) of the trailer for the "Green Lantern" movie right in the palm of their hands before the 3-D movie arrives in theaters.

In addition to movie trailers, he said this wireless(无线的) Nintendo channel will also offer comedy shorts, music videos and other short video clips curated by(由……策展) Nintendo.

Fils-Aime also announced that the Nintendo 3DS will allow owners to record their very own 3-D videos.

The 3DS will come with two cameras on the outside of the device and one on the inside. In the lead-up to the 3DS' launch, Nintendo has been showing off how the two cameras on the outside let users snap their own 3-D still photos. Fils-Aime did not reveal any details about the 3DS' ability to shoot 3-D video as well. He said instead, "Stay tuned for an update, but let's just say we're enthused(极为热情的)."

Nintendo execs(executives的简写,执行官) went on to announce that, through a partnership with AT&T, they will be providing more than 10,000 Wi-Fi hotspots for 3DS owners to connect to.

"Nintendo 3DS will be the most connected Nintendo device ever, with its ability to link people via local wireless connections, while at the same time connecting them to people and content worldwide via hotspot connectivity," Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said.

And in news sure to make Nintendo fans happy, Iwata revealed that the company is working on a new "Super Mario" game for the 3DS.

Gamers and Nintendo fans have noticed that a new "Mario" game is not launching at the same time the 3DS launches — an unusual move for Nintendo. But Iwata said the forthcoming game will feature traditional Mario game play and will fulfill the dream of Nintendo video game designer (and Mario creator) Shigeru Miyamoto to bring true depth and distance into the game’s mechanics.

The game is being developed by the same Nintendo team that created the Wii console games "Super Mario Galaxy" and "Super Mario Galaxy 2."
