Obama's Wedding Barack and Michelle first met in 1989 when he was employed as a summer associate at the Chicago law firm of Sidley Austin. They got engaged in 1991 and married October 3, 1992.
Their wedding ceremony was performed by Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois. Rev. Jesse Jackson's daughter, Santita (pictured), sang at their wedding. She and Michelle are childhood friends.
